Album Cover Mashup

The purpose of this multi-phase assignment was to deconstruct all components of two separate and dissimilar albums and to ultimately redesign album art that successfully withholds the essence of both albums as far as sound and visuals by combining the available elements.

The two albums that I was provided were 'Live and More' by Donna Summer and 'Something in the Wind' by the Paul Winter Consort. I chose to skew the image of Summer and use the loud colors and patterns the albums provided to join the different sounds which I would sum up as upbeat, groovy, jazzy, earth music.

After deconstructing and indexing all elements from the two albums into categories of typography, imagery and color I selected eight swatches to represent my color palette.

I played with the concepts of rhythm, tension and emphasis by combining aspects from both albums. The challenge was translating language into a visual.

I first experimented with the record labels alone, then with imagery from one album along with the record label from the other.

I then applied my color palette to what I felt was the most successful set from the study.
